Not Bad
A rather eccentric take on Jekyll and Hyde... To the point where I have to say that using the title and the names in this film is a bit of an intentional deception. traditionally Jekyll/Hyde involves the use of a drug to separate or create a separate personality and the change usually is accompanied by a physical transformation. In this story a drug is involved but its significance and the nature of the dual persona is quite different. I am avoiding specifics because this would constitute a spoiler and I think the film is worth watching. And Eddie Izzard as Nina Jekyll is fairly amazing in it.
The story here is of a young petty criminal and junkie who is out of prison and seeking to make a new life, hoping to gain contact with the child he has never even met. Aided by his older brother the young guy gets a job as in-home assistant to Dr. Nina Jekyll, an aging and somewhat grotesque reclusive billionaire... Sounds improbable? Well, this is England and the "eccentric" wealthy are a familiar category, so... maybe. Obviously Jekyll has a secret.
