When was Wes Craven diagnosed?

I'm rewatching this after a long time. Something about the hospital ending clicked in my mind given the fact Wes sadly passed away last year. I remember after this released and everyone was tweeting Wes and asking about the 5th movie, and Wes was talking about just going on a "really long vacation" and discussing it after and then it just faded away.

Do you think everyone knew at the time his health wasn't going well, and that would explain the "hospital" ending?

It was clearly supposed to end at the house, and as much as the Weinsteins suck balls cutting scenes and the whole fiasco with Kevin, in hindsight it seems to be due to the circumstances of Wes's health because they knew there wasn't going a a 5th movie? Having a cliff hanger is no way to end this series (for good).

 I apologize for any spelling/grammar mistakes. I'm on my phone 90% of the time.

yeah, but I don't think that could have been one of the factors because usually in situations like that they would just think they could hire another director.

No OP, considering Robert Englund didn't even know, I doubt the Scream 4 cast would have known.

Very sad indeed.

I think the hospital change was due to a simple re-write, and nothing to do with Wes.

Unfortunately from my view, Scream 4 wasn't a very good movie, despite some good ideas and intentions. The first two had their flaws, but were better put together and better written than parts three and four.

My hope is that we'll eventually see Wes's original version of Cursed, with the original cast.

We'll never see Wes's original version of Cursed because it was never finished. They shot 3/4 of it and then started over. The only thing we might get is a hodge podge of the original footage and the final film which I don't want to see. It would be nice to see the footage from the original shoot though.
