I used to be a fan of the Scream flicks back when i was a teenager. Now as a grown person, i only appreciate this movie out of them all. The first one was inevitable, fair enough, but it was boring, the second one was the same as the first and the third one was too light-hearted, but you know what? i'll stream that one again because maybe it had potential, they just needed to make it a bit more serious. Scream 4 is a bit more serious than the third, the thing is Scream 4 is somewhat of a joke because it isn't scary, it's only watchable.

I think Scream 4 has its scary moments. And Scream is a classic. Not a boring scene.

Scream 2 does drag a bit in the middle. I think they could have cut out a little bit of Sydney's play rehearsals.

Part 3 is definitely the weak link. Went full parody almost. Lame opening, but strong finale for the most part.

"A bit more serious..." You're kidding, right?

It does all of what Scream 3 did wrong on a much larger scale.

People are literally making jokes out of their own deaths. That opening felt like something out of an SNL routine, hell, 90% of the movie did.

I grew up loving the series, still think the first two are very good, the third was very sub par, and this one was so bad it made me feel ashamed to have ever been a fan of this series. This is my single most hated film of all time.

I agree with OP. Part 4 is way above 3 in its serious tone. Gone is the Scooby Doo atmosphere and over the top caricatures. Death have a weight. You can see it in Sidney's face when certain characters die. Virtually Nobody cares when anybody died in part 3.
