ummm... yeah i already knew because i looked into the spoliers before i went to see the movie in theatres which kind of ruined a lot of stuff for me. the only scene i actually cringed at was Olivia's death. i already knew in advance she dies in her bedroom as all the spoliers dictated but i didn't know it was going to be as violent as it was.
shareThat was horrible. And then one of her friends is ready to party almost the next night??
shareIt was such a LONG time ago that I forget how the people, there weren't many, in the same screening as me reacted.
However I too had the identity of the killer(s) spoiled for me before I saw the film, thanks to IMDb.
That having been typed it did become kinda obvious that Jill was a killer...
5 years is a "LONG" time ago? I still remember how people reacted when the killer threw the knife at Dewey's head and when Sidney was shot in Scream 3 and that was 16 years ago!
Dragonzord! Mastodon! Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Saber Toothed Tiger! Tyrannosaurus!
Same as you except I didnt know who the killers were.
Lose the Game!!!!!!!
I don't really remember the reactions in my theatre when she got stabbed, but I was really shocked. And I'm also suprised that so many of you already knew what happens in the movie, I had no idea before I saw it and I really loved. I would have never guessed that Jill was the killer, but I had that feeling about Charlie especially during the "STABATHON" he acts really creepy there. Great film imo.
shareThere was a collective gasp among the audience when Kirby was stabbed.
Also the Jill reveal had everyone stupefied. I was sitting there grinning when Jill was revealed because I was proud of Kevin for finally surprising the audience equally as much as or just shy of the original Scream.
Other scenes that had the audience in shock:
Trevor being shot in the groin.
Olivia's entire death sequence and the subsequent attack in the hallway.
Jill beating herself up in the kitchen. I loved how they pulled that off. It brought back to memory the gleeful insanity of Billy and Stu having a stab-eachother-contest in Stu's kitchen and how disturbing it was to imagine two teenagers acting in such a deranged manner...and taking everything so lightly.
Well, there were only a few of us in the theaters when I saw it, but none of that. I said, it's OK, she'll just regenerate.

Why is Kirby so popular? To the point her death is controversial and people like to believe she might still be alive? She didn't seem like anything more than a new character there to be slaughtered along the way to me.
But to answer your question, nobody in my theater seemed to react to any of the new characters getting killed. Jill's reveal and Sidney's apparent death were the only "gasp" moments.
She's a hot girl that likes horror movies and goes for film geeks, of course she's gonna be popular with the target audience. Then I imagine it's probably nice for girls to finally have a female horror geek for them to relate to. Then she's spunky with a good sense of humor on top of that.

Hideous hair do which would never be a popular style for a High School student no matter what decade.
I thought she looked a lot better and more attractive with that hair than she ever had before.
shareI was thrilled but yes there were annoying gasps.
