Answering NO was not enough. CLEARLY they were looking for more than just a NO to the question. He explains at the end that they are looking for someone who pays close attention to DETAIL, has good listening skills AND has compassion for others. None of which the other candidates possessed based on their actions, with exception to the blonde!!!!

She got lucky after the exam had finished after doing the least throughout. Black was analytical and tried to think on his feet, come up with ideas and solutions, showed compassion (she wouldn't have been able to give white the pill without him and did stand back and do nothing to help previously) and wasn't passive.
Black was the first one to attack another candidate. Black tried to withhold the medicine from White just to see if he's telling the truth.
