Why was there a button to speed up the timer?
I mean other than the director of the movie wanting the movie to end with WHITE getting disqualified like that? What kind of a logical reason could such a button have?

The room is full of things that misdirect or allow for mischief.
The button could of been there so if you figured out the answer to the question you would not have to sit & wait 80 minutes. You could speed up time.
shareBut you can't end the test early. That's the whole point. The test takes 80 minutes and it doesn't matter what the clock says.
Literally the only point of the button is to trick other candidates into screwing up in the last minute or so. Because that's exactly how you want to evaluate candidates in charge of saving humanity.
And speaking of dumb things, how about the voice-activated room... that only controls light switches! If I found out the room was voice-activated, I'd have spent 15 minutes yelling out things to try to get more reactions and information. These people just said "Hey, the room can hear. Whatever. Let's pee on things."
A part of the test for the candidate is attention to detail.
Can't stop the signal.
