Battle tactics (mild spoilers) and a mini-review
I know it's not that kind of movie, but at the end of the film, when the two armies are coming together in the tunnel, I don't know why the guys with spears and shields didn't form up a shield wall and actually use that tunnel to their advantage. I know this film wasn't really concerned with realistic battle tactics, but would it have been so hard to show a pretty standard Greek tactical decision?
Overall, though, the movie was a lot of fun, and it always looked *cool*. Lots of good images, well-framed shots, and neat fantasy/sword-and-sandal combat. The storyline is basic, the dialogue is serviceable, and the characters are mostly flat, but it does have a good flavour of classic mythology mixed with modern action that makes for a fun, entertaining "brain off" flick.
I would've liked to see a bit more creativity with certain elements of the film (the love interest is beyond predictable) and more reasons to care about the characters (particularly some of the gods, maybe a few titans?) but overall it's fun.
Anybody who likes fantasy action movies or is a bit of a sucker for beat-'em-up swords and myths movies won't waste their time.
