gerard butler was missed
Is it me or is the first 300 way more epic because of Leonidas? Thermosticles was just not up there

shareBoth were good but 300 had some great action sequences. 300 Spartans holding a gate against persians is indeed valiant.
When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.
I thought Gerard had a more commanding performance than Sullivan. I missed him too.
shareI liked the movie, but have to agree Gerard Butler commanded the screen and army.

I totally agree with you ๐. Gerard Butler was delicious in the 300.
........ What is the fastest way to burn belly fat!!

He had better speaches and more charisma.
shareAgreed. Butler delivered his lines with confidence and aggressive passion. Stapleton, conversely, sounded like David Cameron addressing a school audience. There was no passion, no assertiveness, and nothing to make the adrenaline rush. "This is where we fight! This is where they die!" is infinitely more memorable and awesome than the amazingly boring speech Themosticles delivered ahead of the first battle. An uninspired display indeed.
shareI agree that Leonidas was the more memorable fictionalization of a real person, but I think Themistocles (or his fictionalization or however you want to look at it) gets dumped on more than he deserves. He was meant to be a soft spoken, understated foil to the lovably bombastic, larger than life Leonidas, and I respect the intentions behind the characterization.
shareSure, but it's not suitable for a movie like 300. The whole concept is based on testosterone and anger, not eloquence and composure.
sharebut what would be the point of copying Leonidas just for the sake of being 300? that would be boring too
Besides if they made this guy act like Leonidas, then EVERYONE would be like "Why is he just copying Leonidas, what a rip off.
he did fine, he was meant to be more strategic and more calculating. it worked
Leonidas was already dead. Numbnuts!

would you really, honestly just wanted them to create a Leonidas clone? you wanted that?
what would be the point of cloning Leoniads? Themistocles was meant to be calculating and more of a thinking man, more of a strategist. Leonidas was pure rage and force,
Themistocles was more strategic. I loved that, i loved that about the movie. he was good
True, Themistocles was more of a strategist, but let's not forget that part of the reason that the Spartans inflicted so many casualties on the Persians at Thermopylae was due to strategy - i.e., using their knowledge of terrain against the Persians to render their disadvantage in numbers less significant. For that reason, the Battle of Thermopylae is still taught at military academies (such as West Point) as one of the finest examples of using terrain in battle to an army's advantage.
shareStapleton was a huge miscast. Lacking in charisma, boring, impotent, and uninspiring.
