Divorce would have been very bad for her.

Texas divorce laws favor the man. A woman divorcing a rich man in Texas would not make out like in some other states.

Texas is one of the few states that splits 50-50, so I'm not sure how that would be bad for her. And back in 1980-whatever, when he wasn't wealthy, I doubt he had a prenup.

Hmm I didn't think that to be the case. I lived in Texas and I saw someone get a divorce and she got the shaft. Of course I am sure that every woman feels like that when they get divorced.
