this movie was absolute crap

none of it rang true

i was there at the start...or actually before the start

i approached an acquaintance who owned a strip joint back in 95, with the idea of cams and posting on the net...he saw no monetary benefit

yet two morons bust into a joint owned by the russian mob and sell the guy in 10 minutes? never mind that with all the strip clubs in los angeles, and all the hungry gals who would love upfront money for pics, these idiots ended up there.

writing a secure program for credit card transactions in 15 minutes?

not one mention that it was government intervention that opened the door for the portals to exist in the first place, as those idiots created the law that to see porn one had to present a credit card

thing is, porn was on the net long before the first portal

porn actresses didnt hang around the offices of the portal sites...i know, i did tech work for 2 of them

i stopped watching after the first half...is there any mention of the copyright law suits that happened during the early years when one site would basically do screen grabs and post content as their own?

the vast majority of sites that used portals were crap....they had great names to suck users in...and provided little to nothing in content....it was all a money grab

best thing for users was trying to get their accounts cancelled...sometimes would take months...that is how these guys got rich

this movie is pure fiction

the real story would be boring

People like you make me sick.

So basically you're saying your experience doesn't match that of Jack Harris? So if one McDonald's employee goes on to make millions, all will? What a load of crap.

reply

but the guy has a point, there is no way a secure program for credit card transactions could be created in 15 minutes.

also they did print pictures from magazines and put on websites but there was no copyright lawsuit which is kinda weird coming from "inspired from true story" film.

but Bacci40, if you tried something and it didnt work out, it doesnt mean others will surely be unsuccessful in it.

It's highly unlikely, but I guess it's all about finding the right algorithm. If you have that, writing the program itself is probably a piece of cake.

The thing with using copyrighted material did raise an eyebrow for me, but then again, that was in the early stages when they had a few hundred, maybe a few thousand clients and ran their own porn site. As soon as Luke Wilson's character comes in, they switch to the middle men business they can probably avoid most of the heat by not being the actual content providers (except of course for the child porn problem near the end).

I just got done watching lord of the rings... that *beep* was so unrealistic!

(I can't hear you over how sarcastic I'm being)

Bacci, your aquaintance was obviously a complete moron. He didnt see the potential to make money from this however the people who made millions out of it did. What even is your point? Cause as far as I can see this just shows that you and your aquaintance are thick as *beep*

You do also know that this movie was BASED on true events? The important part being the " based "

The majority of the population who watch films ( like this ) know that if a film is based on true events you will probably find about 30% reality and 70% fiction.
