What he meant was these guys cleaned up in the internet sales-transaction business because their main competition, Pay Pal, refused to facilitate porn-related purchases.

Bear in mind, it's "inspired by a true story," not "based." Pretty big difference. One could say "2001" was "inspired by the Bible."
