MySpace? Really? this was made in 2010!?

I'm pretty sure most of the world (America especially) was using Facebook by 2010.
Don't they have script writers that usually avoid plot holes, incorrect facts, references etc!?

This was made in the UK, though I can't remember if Myspace was the big thing then as I wasn't into it.

Didn't they mention Myspace in the first Iron man film as well. That was around the same time as this wasn't it?

I didn't realise it was made in UK. Much cheaper to shoot in UK that's for sure.
Yes, Tony Stark did make a joking reference that he didn't want his see that picture up on Mypace. Iron Man was released in April/May of 2008, so i'm guessing all he script writing/filming was done in the 2007.
Myspace was DEFINITELY relevant and in full use back in then.
I found the switch to Facebook was around 2009 for most people. Some earlier, Some later. Depending on what part of the world you were from.

I remember thinking the primary Myspace use was weird in 2010 when I first saw this. I remember by late 2007, when I was a college freshmen, most of my friends had started using Facebook as their main social media site, with some, such as myself, using myspace as a secondary site. By early 2009 myspace was well on its way out and by 2010 it was a barren wasteland, with the exception of musicians who still used it for their band pages. I haven't read the comic Kick-Ass, but I'm assuming that because it was released in early 2008, Myspace might have been the main social media site they used in it.

I'm much older than you, and even I was using Facebook by 2008.

The movie was filmed from September 2008-April 2009.

Was probably a lot cheaper to use MySpace than facebook references in the film. The UK were all using facebook too!

Though the comic was published in 2008 there are references to Myspace throughout it. They also have flip phones. Mark Millar probably started writing it a little before all of that took off or maybe it was supposed to take place more in the early 2000's. (And Mark Millar is from the UK not the US even though it takes place there.)

MySpace was at its peak in 05-06, it most certainly didn't die, maybe that's just when you stopped using it?

When this movie was made (late 2008) plenty of people I knew either used MS, FB, or both. As someone else already mentioned 2009 was the year that broke new ground for Facebook and led to "The Social Network" being greenlit as a movie people would care to see.

Facebook didn't overtake Myspace in viewer hits until April 2008. So in April 2008 MS and FB was 50/50. This movie was filmed in late 2008. So MS had probably 45% of the usage share and had the historical seniority as the first massive social network site. For all the director knew, this new FB fad could die tomorrow.
Add two and two together and it's obvious why MS was used in a film at a time when it was equally as popular as FB.

There were a lot of things about this movie that made it feel like it was made way before 2010. The Myspace references, the flip phones people were recording with, the using of terms like "That's so gay!" and the part about Dave jerking off to National Geographic titties. Seriously? Why would a kid with access to the internet have to resort to National Geographic titties? That's what kids did BEFORE the internet! Whoever wrote that into the script was clearly O-L-D.

I assumed MySpace paid for product placement.
