Why is this film NOT ELIGIBLE for Oscars?
I read that somewhere and I'm curious since.
shareeven if it was eligible for the oscars, this time Julianne Moore has very good and better chance to win her first oscar and Bradley Cooper has better chance in American Sniper.
i went to see INCEPTION 5 times... !!!
That would be my guess. They don't want to hurt Bradley Cooper's chances by having two of his movies in contention in the same year and potentially splitting the vote. The studios have less faith in Serena taking home awards (based at least in part on the UK reviews) so it gets bumped into next year.
shareA US film that gets released in the UK first, that's a novelty. Bradley Cooper is dreadful so I can't see him being nominated anyway.
yes plus they filmed it from 2 years.

Because they made it look bad but it's not that bad at all. I saw the movie just a few minutes ago and I think it's a fine movie. Both Jennifer and Bradley gave a fine performances maybe not the best but that's because this is not Silver Linings playbook or even American Hustle. People wanted that Jennifer and that Bradley from that movie (SLP) and they didn't get it.
In this movie he's a man who's doing his bussiness, she's a woman with a horrible tragic life event, she lost her family, they meet, fall in love etc.. everything is so normal and at the beginning it seems that it's not as much interesting as it should be. And when bad things start to happen and dramatic events are finally happening you can be almost sure it won't have a good ending and it's not much exciting anymore. When everything is made so a movie will fail you can't expect it to be good.
My personal opinion. I liked this movie more because it was something totally different and the opposite of SLP. But that's just my opinion.

I doesn't really matter, because this film will get ZERO nominations for anything (except maybe Razzie nominations). In the countries where it has been released so far, it has gotten the worst reviews of Lawrence's, Cooper's and director Bier's career. We're not talking bad reviews - we're talking HORRIBLE reviews like "worst big budget film of the decade". Don't believe what you hear about the two-three year delay being because of Lawrence's problems about having time to dub herself. It's been on the shelf for years because no one wanted to release it. It took YEARS for it after release to get somebody to distribute it, because no one wanted it. It's being compared to "Heaven's Gate" and "The Postman" by reviewers: A film that could kill carreers. So please don't expect any nominations for this film - just prepare for the worst...

It would be a joke if any part of this film received Oscar nominations. It reminds me of films like Evening or August County where you have all the ingredients for a great film but it just fails to deliver.
There are only 37 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and the actors fair far better than the direction of this movie - some reviews even praise the acting. This movie is not the rumored disaster we read about prior to it's release, but it's not a good movie either. It is watchable just for the cast involved but I think they would be crazy to keep the U.S. cinematic release date.
Bollox to the oscar's I thought Serena was a good film and even if it was nominated it would still lose out to Mr Turner, the oscar's, and the pile of crap they encompassed
