So, in an ironic twist, was that the elusive......(SPOILER)

panther that killed him? It happened so fast, but the fleeting view didn't really look like a panther. Was it the bobcat he wounded? Does anybody know what it was?

Or did the panther never exist, like an urban legend?

"So, what would you like to see on your honeymoon, Mrs. Cord?" "Lots of lovely ceilings."

It was a mountain lion or also referred to as a cougar. Yes, quite ironic that what he yearned to conquer in turn, conquered him.

Not a bobcat; they - aka wildcats - are the mascot of my alma mater/longtime place of employment so saw some univ. presidents, etc., pose with them. See thewildlifesactuary.com/American Panther - picture looks identical to the cat in the movie that got George, the bad shot. (Couldn't post a link.) There's much debate as to whether this is a separate species from the cougar/mountain lion. In the west they are/were called by the latter names.

Gorgeous cat!! Sadly, the most endangered in the world; maybe 100 left in the wild. (I checked out a few sites.) Actors - we've got plenty.
