Grandpa...(spoilers)

In the end, Urban calls Willis grandpa. Was this in reference to Willis being old, or was this because the two found out more about eachother during the series of events throughout the movie? Except for their car fight scene early on, it never seemed like Willis was trying to kill Urban, just guide him along. Plus, throughout the film, everything about them matches eachother: from their ideas of right and wrong all the way down to their fighting style. Just wondering what others thought. Maybe I'm over analyzing this.

Cooper called him grandpa during the fight scene in his office and yes, it would be in reference to Frank being retired.

You are over analysing this. He called him Grandpa because he is older, and retired.

Yes! You've figured it out! They're actually related!

I swear, the movie-going public used to be smarter...

reply

No, they weren't smarter. They just couldn't voice their thoughts back in the heyday due to lack of internet.

Nope. Right thread. Although how his post is formatted I can see how the line looks like it could be a sig.

I would say 'old' because he said it in the fight scene in the office and then again at the end.

If Cooper hadn't said it first at that point then it could be explained in relation to the fact that his trainer (Cordeski) was trained by Frank Moses which would make Moses his "grandpa" in that respects.

Are they related?
This is never specifically confirmed, but is hinted at more often than just the 'Grandpa' comments from Cooper.
When Moses' file is first given to Cooper, his superior asks him very pointedly, "Do you have a problem with this?" Cooper hesitates for a good 5 seconds, time not to be wasted in a film without a reason, before saying 'No'.

Cooper opens Moses' file in the 'room that doesn't exist', and finds out that Moses was Black Ops, not an analyst as he'd always been told, and looks far too surprised, considering that by this time, he already knew that an 'analyst' got away from a full squad at his home, leaving few survivors.

I'm sure I could think of more, but it's been a while since I watched it last.

reply

No, they're not related. I think you are reading way too much into it all.

Most likely the age difference. I'm a cop, not the oldest in my department but one of the most experienced and one of the youngest(my sons age) refers to me as a grandpa and I refer to him as junior. After this movie came out we al got a big laugh out of it.
