What do you think happened to VP Stanton?

The Vice President clearly survives being shot at the end of the movie but there was no clear resolution of what happened to him afterwards. Was he exposed? Was he finished off by Agent Cooper who said he'll take care of everything?

Pretty much anyone's guess unless it was covered in the graphic novel the movie was based on.
