A strange, disjointed movie

Absolutely nothing in this movie came together for me. It just seemed like a ton of topics thrown haphazardly at the screen. I don't care at all about the casting controversy, nor about the Hawaiian indigenous subject, which was at least interesting. Just overall, it simply didn't flow. Characters were clumsily introduced, random things were unexplained, some things were over-explained (e.g. the launch announcement/narration).

And the subtitled, silent conversation? WTF?

Yeah this is a pretty bad film. Probably Cameron Crowe's weakest film to date.

I totally agree. By far one of the worst movies in 2015! The cinematography and editing were so bad with the dialogues... uff...the story which wasn't one... just bad!

I love it, best movie of the year so far. It all made sense to me however you're right in that Cameron was forced to trim a bit too much, hopefully the extra 10 minutes will be added in a later release.

Quit exhaling! You are contributing to global warming.

Please explain why you considered it the Best Movie of the year... unless your point was that all other movies were worst?
I am sincerely curious what those who liked it found so appealing???

I agree and would add The Descendants is better.

Disjointed... pretty much what I kept saying throughout, while watching with my wife. Great elements.. none of which came together. Best part, the final meeting between Woody and him, the whole unspoken dialog. And his daughter's realization of who he was.

I thought the same thing about the disjointed feel. I really wanted to like this movie and kept hoping the storylines would come together.

Same here. There was a very likeable cast, a director I tend to enjoy, and lots of elements, that on the surface, should have made for a good movie but everything came together in such an odd manner. Beyond the "white washing" controversy regarding Emma Stone's casting, it just feels preposterous for them to try to push on us the idea that her character is the product of a half Chinese, half Hawaiian father. Even if they had covered that ground more smoothly, there was just something about the whole satellite portion of the story that never quite connected. It's a tell tale sign that something isn't working with your film when Bill Murray's presence doesn't help elevate it.

It seemed all over the place to me. The whole space thing seemed so out of place in this film. Just a lot of bad editing and they seemed to make more out of this film than what it was. A basic love story.
