bill murray/spoiler

Spoiler! I felt Bill Murray's character was a bit of a reach in that he seemed so down to earth and relaxed as a person. Then at the end he is supposed to be this major power tripper who wants to put weapons in the sky. It just seemed like a stretch for me to believe his character would be into that.

Oh, I don't know. Bill did blow up a golf course in Caddyshack. 

Of course.

It's arbitrary and stupid.

Billionaire-level rich people DON'T NEED ACTUAL WEAPONS to impose their will. Their money is their weapon. And it works just fine. They don't need to resort to criminality. They achieve their goals without it and at no risk.

At the end, Bill Murray had apparently devolved into Dr. Evil-type Laser-beam-having billionaire. Ridiculous.

Yeah I agree, for a film that was primarily grounded in being a relationship and family drama, the sub-plot about the weaponised satellite just came out of nowhere and required a real suspension of disbelief that it the movie had not earned. Very confusing.

Exactly. The movie was just a love story with sci fi thrown in. Totally out of place in my opinion. Out of left field, seems like they used the first idea that they thought of as a sub plot and it really doesn't fit.
