Very disappointed

I found this return episode to be very boring.

I normally like the pace of the show but this was like watching paint dry.

In the past it had more give and take.

When you have very limited episodes and are gone off the air for 6 months you need a little more substance than this.

I hope it picks up.

disagree.

it was really good.

If they were going into a new season where they had 12 to 15 episodes to work with I wouldn't have minded. But there are 5 episodes left and tonight I found it quite boring.

Especially after a 6 month absence.

I liked the scenes with the bookie and the stripper and it was nice to see her at the end with him for his chemo.

But there was only a one minute scene with Owen and his father about the problems with the business. Yet it was a big issue in the last episode back in Jan.

And way too much of Terry and him staying at the woman's apt.

When you only have a handful of episodes you need more substance.

Maybe the writers don't know what direction to go in.

The scenes from next week looked better, so I hope it picks up.

Well given how much toward the end the storyline focused on Owen running the dealership and his issues with his father, I didn't think the shift to what was happening with the rest was too over the top. Only thing that disappointed me was the way Erin ended things with Terry. Owen showed some growth as a character by finally standing up to his father, which is always a good thing.

Very solid episode, imo.

Terry & Erin were foreshadowed by the episode where they were reintroduced (which TNT reran last night -- both my wife and I had missed it. You could see from the start that Terry was ready for much more than Erin was, and runs through a number of stop and caution signs that he wants to miss.

I think all three men have shown growth in subtle but powerful ways; I really enjoyed this episode. But I am of a certain age myself; I am much happier with nuance than with constant action. I do love the bookie, despite his being nothing but trouble for Joe. And it was great to see the dancer with him at chemo!

I actually enjoyed the episode.. and people say NOTHING happened? It was actually if you think about it.. very much an episode ALL about Terry.. how great was that? How they brought back the first SERIOUS relationship he'd probably ever TRIED... and how he referred to it as a fling.. the hurt in his face when Erin referred to him as her "fling".

There were lots of smaller subtle moments.. that I thought Bakula pulled off FANTASTICALLY. I LIKE Bakula.. he's a great presence.. but never thought much of him as a SERIOUS actor.. although.. there were some episodes of Quantum Leap.. and he's much more ENJOYABLE to watch than most actors.. just not someone I think of as a SERIOUS actor (so I am by NO means knocking him.. I actually LOVE the flick Necessary Roughness, and his turn as Orion on "Chuck").

But.. the moment when he puls the toothbrush in the cup? this.. odd little smile. NOT something I would think the Terry a YEAR ago would have done..

As for Owen.. I think they are setting the wheels in motion for something.. although.. I wonder.. is Owen going to sell the lot to the other company? It seemed like a big deal in the last finale..

maybe it wasn't off to a HUGE start.. but the show never really has been about HUGE big developments.. but I can see the argument.. people want to get off and running with these limited number of episodes.

I thought there was a lot of substance. Owen standing up to his father. Joe and his ex-wife showing signs that they might start having a "thing." And Terry going down in flames. All of that amounted to a lot of substance to me. I can understand that not everyone is going to like everything, but this seemed like the normal pacing of this show. Just out of curiosity, what would you have liked to have seen to give it more substance?

reply

boring, jac?

sorry to disagree with you, but i thought this episode covered a lot of ground...

IMHO it dealt with every character beautifully:

1) Terry & his lady - now "ex-lady"
i felt his pain in the coffee shop when the old & new g'friends met...

2) Joe & Sonia - wonder where that will go? reconciliation?
Albert seems to be shaping up nicely, too...that hug he gave his mom at the end was so sweet...

3) Owen & the dealership dilemma...and he & the wife are still hot for each other!
looks like Andre has shed a few pounds, too...good for him!

4) and last but not least, Manfro in chemo...that closing scene with the dancer was a real -warming "awwwwww" moment for me...

i don't know what else they could have done to speed it up for you...

I'm with you nasloranger....it was a great episode!

Was the daughter a different actress? The one from last season was always running away from Joe so it seemed I never saw her face and she was so upset about him catching her with that boy in his house. They seem to have gotten over that. LOL.

Owen not only going to stand up to Daddy but it looks like in his drunken stupor he made promises to Melissa he's not keeping....
And drinking is not good for diabetics!

That was a sweet last scene.

Glad to see MOACA back!

Are you referring to him going ahead with his plans for the body shop? Remember the competitor that made the offer suggested the dealership had fallen on hard times because they had scrapped plans for the body shop. Proceeding with the expansion might just be a way to up the price.

reply

No...he drunkenly told Melissa he was selling the business....letting her work on her writing and he would take care of the kids all the time.

That's what I was talking about..LOL.

I LOVED that he stood up to his Daddy at the end about the body shop!

reply

I don't know if that was just drunken talk. As someone else said, the car lot wasn't Owen's dream, it was his dad's. I think he might actually want to sell it, AFTER he makes it more valuable. And of course, if he can buy some time in the process, ALL the kids will be in school.

I should add that I loved the part where he stood up to "daddy." It might actually cause his dad to have some respect for him; but then again it could royally piss him off. LOL
