I'd like a raise please. I'd like it NOW!

1) There is no way a business owner would trust two walkouts with management, give them raises, and rehire them. He might figure out he needed to hire (and pay for) managers, but I'm sure it wouldn't be the same two.

2) Joe runs his business based off his personal circumstances instead of business circumstances. I'm either getting annoyed with the writing or the character. Or both.

agree on both points...

i was thinking, "that'll be the day i'd re-hire a couple of kids who walk out just because they didn't get their way!"

IMO, their "management skills" weren't all that great...

i'm sure Joe could have hired new help pretty quickly, especially since he was planning to spend more time in the store himself - and wouldn't need a manager after all...
a new cashier & stock clerk would have been all he'd need...

but, we're thinking in terms of real life - and this was the t.v. version...
had to bring back the likable characters (who aren't so likable at times!)

Measure twice; Cut once.

And I'm getting annoyed with your constant bitching and nitpicking.

There's nothing wrong with that scene. They had Joe over a barrel because he was right in the middle of painting the store and they have been there awhile.

It's joe realizing he was wrong and they deserved the raise in the first place. Most of the things that happened in this episode were there to show Joe that he wasn't on the right track and was mismanaging pretty much everything in his life.

I was ok with this - Joe's a softy at heart and not a very good businessman. He also personally likes those two people. I was thinking that he probably can't afford to give them a raise and will go into his own pocket to do so.
