Cameras

I recently started watching this and now I'm hooked - what a great show this is!

I do have one quick question about why the cameras shake during some scenes. I am not complaining as some of my favorite shows do this (Friday Night Lights), but is it something specific the directors want to do; make it seem more real to the viewers?

Yes, it's planned. They specifically wanted to emulate the look of a certain TV show although right now I can't remember which one it is.

I seem to recall the first show that had a radically different style of camera "moves" was NYPD Blue.
There was always movement and it was strange to watch at first.
Of course, this probably has nothing at all to do with the subject here, but it jogged my memory.

I'm sure I've seen every episode, and I can't recall any of these camera shakes..... can you give a specific episode? I think full episodes are available to view on TNT..

Not new trend at all, as Goodallguy so correctly noted. Goes back at least as far as "NYPD Blue" in '90s.

I never watched NYPD Blue and never really took notice of this style until I started watching the Office. I don't mind it for the most part, but sometimes find it annoying.

It looks to be filmed with hand held cams, almost like real time documentary style. I know the Office was filmed that way (on purpose) and it took me a while to get used to. I've also seen movies filmed that way as well. It seems to be a new trend.
