The Problem With This Show Is Not The Writing

I've heard some complaints recently about the writing being lazy or that certain things on this show never could happen. Frankly, the only problem I had was the episode where Terry is overheard talking on his front porch from the cameras in the car...but that's not even worth going into IMO.

I'm a writer myself and this is good stuff. The writers might take some liberties in certain areas (like the above) but I find the storylines interesting from week to week.

The real problem IMO lies in the time slot they've given it. Now 6 episodes and then a huge break doesn't help at all but we've talked about that ad nauseam already. What I also think is adding to the problem is their change of days.

In season 1 and the first part of season 2, the show was on Monday nights and it was getting a .5 for the 18-49 demo. It was only when they switched it to Wednesdays and put it after Franklin and Bash that the ratings dropped in that category. It seems to me the network is trying to capture the wrong audience. From the ratings, it seems they are going after the younger demo who watches F & B and the experiment didn't work.

IMO, the show should go after the demo it's made for and it should air earlier when the older demo is still up. I mean seriously, how many people over 50 are up this late anyway?

Put it back on Mondays where it was doing better and let it run for a full season on that day in an earlier time slot. I think it would fare much better than where it is now.

Don't know how old you are, but I'm guessing very young, because people over 50 aren't ready for the nursing home.

And FYI, as we age we need less sleep.

I know people in their 70s who are up till all hours, for one thing they don't have to get up and go to work in the morning. :)

It is the people who have to get up at 6am to get ready for work who are in bed early.

I do agree about the split season and Monday night could work better.

But I have a feeling it won't be coming back.

Does anyone even watch "live" TV anymore?

Hello. I'm over 50 and I stay up till midnight. I'm not sure that your hypothesis is correct on the time slot. I think it's that younger demographic is watching F&B and not sticking around for MOCA.

I don't watch F&B (too silly), but do know to tune in at 10 for MOCA. Maybe my age group "can't remember" it's on...LOL

Well, maybe I am wrong about the time slot.

However...it's interesting that it was doing well on Mondays opposite football. Most women don't watch football and were probably tuning in to see this show instead and thus came the nice ratings in the beginning.

Then TNT had the bright idea to move it to Wednesdays instead where it has struggled.

In that interview with Tavis Smiley, Ray says that most of their demo is older women, not men. Maybe they should be playing to that demo instead of trying to grab F & B's audience.
