It seemed that James Franco looked exceptionally bad during this movie - puffy red eyes, extra wrinkles on his face. Was this makeup, or did he just recover from the flu or something?

Yep, i'm pretty sure it's safe to say that most of these guys were stoned throughout the making of this movie.

He didn't look as sick as the audience.
I didn`t think he looked too bad but I wouldn`t be surprised if he was just stoned.
Also it says in the trivia page that he was flying back and forward to another state as he was doing this full time study thing so he probably had jet lag.
