Critics clutch their pearls at this movie, but fawn all over...
...movies like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect.
Basically, "stupid" comedies are only funny if they feature all-female casts, and then critics get to throw every superlative they have into their reviews, telling us how fresh, witty and inspiring those movies are.
But they're really no different than movies like Your Highness and The Hangover series.
As for Your Highness, it would have done a LOT better at the box office -- and probably among critics -- if it was released after the insane success of Game of Thrones.
The stuff that it's parodying -- fantasy cliches, the "tracker" trope, the fact that all movies set in antiquity have casts speaking with British accents -- would have resonated much more with a GoT-obsessed culture. I mean, the movie has Charles Dance in it, for crying out loud.
I don't care what anyone says, Danny McBride is hilarious, and James Franco did a great job paired with McBride. How can you hate on things like the @$%^ening, or that scene where the tracker guy is licking a blade of grass and says, "This blade of grass here...one of them pissed on it before they went east!"
It's even better on a second viewing. Critics don't know a damn thing.
