Zack Snyder Says His ‘Justice League’ Director’s Cut Is A Movie, No Longer A Series

The long epic drama surrounding ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” aka, the “Snydercut,” aka the director’s cut of “Justice League,” is nearly coming to an end. After leaving “Justice League” as a director in summer 2017 due to a family tragedy, the film being finished by Joss Whedon under Warner Bros. notes and supervision, the film being despised, and a long #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, wherein fans crusaded against the studio to let Snyder release his original version of the film, Snyder and fans won. WB relented last year, and the filmmaker was allowed to finish and complete what was said to be a four-hour version on HBO Max said to be chaptered up into a 4 or 5 episode mini-series.

But apparently, that’s no longer the plan, or at least Snyder’s intention. The filmmaker, who is very active on the social media platform Vero, recently revealed the (currently titled) “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” would be released in March. And this weekend, the filmmaker — also known for engaging and answering questions from his Vero fans — when asked whether his Snydercut would be a series or a “one shot” movie, replied it would be “one shot,” aka a film.

That’s obviously a big change of plans and even Snyder himself initially called it a series. It’s unclear if Warner Bros./HBO Max is on board with that plan— clearly, for marketing purposes, a four or five-part mini-series that places place over several weeks would have much penetration and longevity in the media and social media space— but a full movie appears to be the plan.

That’s potentially not a surprise, given all of the filmmaker’s comments lately have surrounded a theatrical version of the movie and an R-Rated cut. None of those elements of the Snydercut are yet official from HBO Max’s end, but so far, Snyder’s received what he’s asked for (theatrical could be a tougher ask, though).

For legal reasons, it’s been said “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” won’t be the official final title, but so far, HBO Max has been trucking along with that title. A few tidbits have been revealed as of late. Actor Henry Lennix, who appeared in Zack Snyder’s “Man Of Steel” as an army general, has confirmed he will be appearing as the Justice League character The Martian Manhunter (via Collider) and has already shot his part.
