Seriously! I just watched the first season on Netflix. I really enjoyed it. All of the great shows get cancelled, yet Jersey Shore lives on. What is the world coming to?

Go s!

I watched this on NF Instant back-to-back with Pushing Daises. It's so bittersweet to watch such great shows, after they've been canned, knowing the whole time it will end prematurely.

reply

We only just started to get this in the UK, after the plug's already been pulled in the States, and from what I've read, it's getting decent ratings.

To little, too lat?... Or maybe foreign interest might encourage another network to pick it back up again. We can but hope.

reply

I seriously think it's one of the better, if not one of the best shows, the U.S. has ever aired. It's no 'Spooks/MI-5', though. ;-)

reply

Are you comparing a comedy with drama? Seriously nobody cares about 'Spooks/MI-5'

reply

Sadly it won't help at all, they pay either nothing or next to nothing to get shows like these from the US...so no chance on it making a difference.

:(

reply

Well, they'd pay if it were the only way for it to continue production, but the ratings would have to be AMAZING for that to happen

reply

For some reason reality television has taken over. I thought that people liked to watch TV to occasionally escape reality...I was wrong. Great shows like this, pushing Daisies, Dead like Me are short-lived because of poor advertisement and the simple fact that they are just too good to continue. Well at least Chuck is hanging on.

reply

for some reason? the reason is MONEY.. reality shows cost next to nothing...

reply

Exactly, jasir_arafat.

Reality television is a perfect set up for television executives. It costs next to nothing to produce - more often than not, it simply consists of a few crew members placing a camera on a group of people and leaving them to their own devices - and the "performers"/contestants/whatever are usually paid nothing, or very little at most.

This concept is golden, as after the producers have spent next to nothing making the show, they are almost always successful. Advertisers pay money to the network for commercials and if the show is controversial enough, the media hops onboard to provide free publicity, increasing the number of viewers and the possible ad revenue.

On the other hand, shows such as Better Off Ted, Pushing Daisies, etc, cost millions to produce, and for some reason, do not always attract the number of viewers desired.

Television executives and networks in the United States have always been more militant than in the UK. Over here, shows are usually given at least one complete series to prove themselves in the ratings, rather than being dropped after two or three episodes if they fare poorly.

Maturity. The very staple of the IMDb message boards.

reply

I don't get it either..

Really, what *does* appeal to the general public?

reply

bleh - i just finished going through arrested development on netflix and saw this was recommended and had same blonde chick in it and i thought i remembered hearing good things so i started watching them. im on episode 4 of season 1 now, so far thinkin they r lil ridiculous at times, not quite as good as ArDev which might be one of the few shows to actually make me laugh out loud frequently, but BOT is fairly funny and could see myself keepin on watchin them

reply

Too good for the lowest common denominator. All the other crap is higher profit margin.
Hopefully no ones career takes a dive because of the poor management. The acting was good and if the props & sets are any indication they probably had a good production crew.
As recently as it got cancelled we can maybe hope it makes a comeback, but I doubt it. Only ridiculously popular shows that were cancelled for BS reasons (like Family Guy) can hope to come back after cancellation.

So, we have another awesome entry in a list of TV shows that were too good to stay on the air. Alongside Firefly and Sports Night.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This show has only JUST started in NZ I think I speak for all 4 million of us when I say WE ALL LOVE IT.

Thank you.

It's really really sad that dumb American audiences (the general "critical mass") did not take to this superbly funny show. It's fast and punchy, and the characters are so well drawn.

While Big Bang Theory and its self-same premise goes on and on.

reply

oh no! I didnt know it was cancelled. I was waiting for the 3rd season and when it didnt start I thought I'd look here, and well, now I know.
The show was sooo funny. I laughed a lot. Veronica was my favourite character. Too bad :(

reply

Just recently discovered this show on FX. Such an awesome show, why is it that they always seem to cancel the shows I like. Since I found the show, I've been watching every episode. I love Phil and Lem!

I love my brick

reply

I agree. I only recently discovered this show. So sad to know there won't be any new episodes anymore... too bad!
