The title

What does it mean? I don´t understand it. What does "Better off" refer to?

reply

It's a stupid pun based on a popular expression "better off dead". I don't think it has anything to do with the show.

reply

Thank you. I didn´t know that expression.

reply

I suppose it means better be dead than work in that office? Bit extreme though.

I actually got this confused with "Dead Like Me" when I hadn't seen either and just heard the titles. I thought this one was about a grim reaper called Ted.

reply

I personally think the title of the show was one of the reasons it was undeservedly canned...it's beneath the creativity and genius of the writing/characters, a lame pun that had ZERO to do with the actual show.

Hey, anyone else think of better possible titles that would have worked? (could be interesting...;)

This show would have most certainly attracted more viewers if it had a better title. The problem is the title says absolutely nothing about the show beyond featuring a character named Ted. Frankly when I first heard the title, I imagined it was a *beep* syndicated daytime sitcom (ala According to Jim), probably about some middle class dad and the wacky sitcom tropes he and his lovable family get into.

Ha I was just coming on here to say that exact thing. The show is brilliant, but every time I try telling someone about it I cringe when i say the title. And I quit telling people about it because of the explanation of the show vs what they instantly preconceive because of the the title. Yes it does sound like a crappy daytime sitcom ala According to Jim, and this show could have skyrocketed with a little more thought put into that. Oh well.

That was the problem with Terriers on FX. Great show but the title didn't give any potential audience a clue as to what it was about.
