Pre Edit Version release?

As someone who loves alternate history and what if stories I loved the original Red Dawn and when I heard of the remake I followed it closely for it to end up in release hell for a year when MGM was having financial issues to then find out they were gutting the Chinese enemy and changing them to Best Korea which to me was a big wtf moment.

Since the movie came out, tanked and I don't think even got a Chinese release isn't it time to release the original version which was completed as people had seen the preview screenings for the original version.

From what I read the original had more backstory, exposition and scenes some which watching the weak reedit you can tell chunks of the story have been ripped out.
