Idiots make films like these and then wonder why no one likes the USA.

Seriously the original was understandable with the Cold War going on, even though I don't recall the Soviets making a similar movie. But this was just ridiculous...Is the producer trying to piss off North Korea? And why involve Russia? Aside from the political angle, it was a dreadful film.

I'm sure most Americans like myself are going to sleep just fine knowing some pussy from another country doesnt like us.

Obviously, we don't need anyone's admiration, but that should still be something we aspire to. Out of self-respect if nothing else.

Its a hypothetical situation. I don't think worrying about someone's feelings is high on the priority list.

This post is so hilarious that I truly hope it is an attempt at trolling.

The Soviets didn't make Red Dawn because they were a communist country that didn't have the freedom to do so.

The US and the rest of the world should be concerned with the horrific civil rights abuses of North Korea's regime and not in the least concerned with "upsetting" them.

But really, Russia and the NK should feel bad for the US because we make horrible fricking movies like this and have to suffer through them.

I think the OP meant a Russian film where America invaded when he mentioned a "similar movie." And a film about "evil America" invading Russia does sound like something the propaganda-happy Soviets would've made.

what did you expect from 'murican dude? they are stupid deal with it.

reply

Why would this cause you to dislike an entire country? Sounds pretty shallow and ignorant, to me.

reply

Probably a left winger they tend to hate themselves and their people.

reply

Leftists tend to hate pretty much everyone. And the more of a quality person you are - successful, intelligent, kind, etc. - the more they hate you.

reply

I can't say I've ever met a leftist who hated "pretty much everyone." Speaking as one myself, there's very few people I genuinely hate. It's simply too much work, and very counterproductive, to hate people.

He never said he hated any country. He said films like this would make others hate the US. The idea behind his post seems to be that films like this paint a negative picture of American culture as being paranoid about invasion. Keep in mind that a lot of what people in other countries know about America they learn from fiction and entertainment. And so it's not unreasonable to think that those films which originate from here provide a sort of cultural snapshot or peek into American values and mindsets.

Taking that into account, I think the OP is wrong, to an extent. While other countries may be left scratching their heads over what they might see as a persecution fetish since a large number of our films deal directly with our country and way of life being threatened by an outside force, these same films nonetheless depict us as brave people willing to stand and fight for our homes, and even die if necessary. And that's not a bad image of Americans to take home, to be honest.

The only way to respond to this OP is to challenge him to go to Veterans Today, and start reading. Go to the Editors/Staff page and really pay attention. Spend at least a week here, and I bet dollars to donuts you will modify your post. You will probably rewrite it.

Both versions of Red Dawn are plausible. When push comes to shove, you cannot predict what an adversary can accomplish when they are motivated. The Russia Federation (like the US) are both smart enough to use surrogates, and not step in directly until they have to.

The US/NATO is really trying Putin's nerves. A POTUS with no military experience trying to match wits with a former Lt. Col. in the GRU (not the KGB), is just plain stupid.

Americans better start to wake up to understand the BRICS. More the "R" than the "C." The Russians have enjoyed a 13% flat tax since 2001. The Ruble is probably gold backed, and word is the RF is practically debt free. Beyond that, it may well possess a staggering surplus. So again, who do you think is going to win in a "push comes to shove" contest?

Oh, more likely we are going to see a "Jericho" scenario than -- Red Dawn. The enemy is already (has been for at least a century) inside the gates...

Putin was in the KGB, not the GRU, his bio is widely available online, as are pictures of him in his uniform (observe the shoulder boards and other insignia).
Yes, neither Bush nor Obama was willing to commit the equivalent of the entire active duty US Army to prevent Russia from dismembering Georgia and Ukraine. Nor was a US President going to commit to another major war in the Middle East, so soon after the last one. If that knowledge makes Putin some kind of genius, then my 17 year old nephew is a super-genius for predicting what would happen, months in advance.

An American cares if other countries like us? What is this, high school? They can deal with it if a movie makes them not like us. Sorry if you are concerned with what Russia and Korea thinks of us because of a movie...doesn't matter.
