My opinions**SPOILERS**

I loved this version, except for a few things. I have seen every Jane Eyre version ever made and have read the book dozens of times, it's my favorite. There have been some excellent versions (the BBC, Timothy Dalton version) and some terrible ones (the William Hurt version) and I would say this one is somewhere in the middle.
What I loved about the movie, the two lead actors. I thought the actress playing Jane managed to portray Jane as quiet, but feisty, plain, but pretty.
And Michael Fassbender as Edward Rochester was a stroke of genius. He was one of the best Mr. Rochester's-ever. In my opinion. He played the character with sexiness, the right amount of arrogance, the right amount of darkness and mystery, and did I mention sexy??
I loved Judi Dench as Mrs. Fairfax, but then I always love Judi Dench.
I loved the romance between Jane and Mr. Rochester. There was so much chemistry between the two actors it was palpable.
What I didn't like about the movie, Jamie Bell. The character of St. John Rivers was supposed to be handsome, arrogant and aloof. Now, Jamie Bell wasn't bad looking, but come on, he is supposed to be a rival to Mr. Rochester? No way! Jamie looked entirely too young and not nearly good looking enough in my opinion. The character of Blanche Ingram, played by Imogene Poots. The character was supposed to be incredibly beautiful and haughty. I didn't feel like the actress was pretty enough or arrogant enough. In the book, Mr. Rochester uses her to make Jane jealous, but the movie didn't go far enough with this. I felt that Edward barely tolerated Blanche's presence, at least not enough to make Jane jealous.
And lastly, I HATED the ending. SPOILER ALERT! The ending of the movie came just as Jane found Edward after he had been blinded. She finds him, hugs him and... that's it! There is a lot more that happens after Jane finds Edward. She teases him about St. John, informs him that she is an heiress and agrees to marry him. I hated the ending.
But all and all, it was enjoyable, only because of it's two lead actors..

I never thought of St.John Rivers as being any kind of heart throb. Jaime Bell was good looking enough for me - of course, I'm a boy. I found the ending devastating - in a good way. I've seen a lot of versions, too (and have been a long time fan of the book) as a film, this really did it for me. And, yes, I also loved the chemistry between Mia and Michael. I trust you sense the "right amount of arrogance" in my post (just kidding). Everyone has their own take on it - I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.
