Adele

I've never read the book, have tried to but can't get past the first chapter. After seeing the film though would like to know what happened to Adele after the fire?. Was she still with Rochester or had someone else took her on.

reply

Mr.R had placed Adele in a school in Jane's long absence and when Jane returns she obtains leave from Rochester to see her.Adele is unhappy in her school so she is uplifted to a less severe place of education where Jane is able to visit her often.
She settled in, and became happy there, and grew up a pleasing child.
All this is in the book, not in the various films.

When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions.

Thanks for that, have often wandered xx

reply

I thank-you also.

she loved poetry and romance, but she hit the glass ceiling at birth

reply

I thank-you also.

Same here.

It was kind of understandable, but a little curious how Adele just sort of slips away from the last 45 minutes or so of the film.

reply

Rochester sends her away to a strict boarding school where she is unhappy and becomes pale and thin.

"You have not quite forgotten little Adèle, have you, reader? I had not; I soon asked and obtained leave of Mr. Rochester, to go and see her at the school where he had placed her. Her frantic joy at beholding me again moved me much. She looked pale and thin: she said she was not happy. I found the rules of the establishment were too strict, its course of study too severe for a child of her age: I took her home with me."
