Jane! Jane! Jane!

A pivotal scene in the book was Rochester calling out to Jane telepathically just as she was about to accept St John's marriage proposal. Rochester shouts Jane's name 3X and she hears him from across the moor. I've watched this movie several times now and I'm noticing subtleties like how the Jane! Jane! Jane! scene was adapted into the movie.

After Jane ran away from Thornfield, Rochester runs into her bedroom and shouts out through the window "Jane! Jane! Jane!".

Rochester's "Jane!" was reverberated 3X throughout the movie, but in a softer tone.

The first "Jane!" was heard in a flashback scene where Jane was standing in front of her cottage. This is the one most people will miss unless subtitles are on.

And more obvious, the 2nd and 3rd "Jane!" were heard when Jane and St John were discussing his marriage proposal.

Did anybody else catch this?

I have to admit that I don't recall hearing that first one. I've watched the film multiple times and I thought I'd caught most things, but I'll have to go back for that one. Which flashback scene is it? Can you tell me a little more about what else is going on in that scene? The director is extremely attentive to detail and to atmosphere - he's also aware of the mystical aspect of the book (the poetic side).

It was the scene where Jane had just moved into her cottage after accepting the teaching job from St. John. She was sweeping the floor and St. John was in the other room. Right after that she stepped outside and was standing alone in front of her cottage. It was at this moment that Rochester's voice is heard whispering "Jane" very softly. It is easy to overlook unless you know to listen for it or have subtitles on.

Anyways, I thought it was very cool. :)

Very interesting! I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the info. I recorded it off TV, so no subtitles, but will go back to try to hear it.

Update! Success! Yes you have to be really listening for it, but it's there straight after a distant bird call. It really does add lustre to what is already a great little scene.
