Had low expectations for this movie, and...

was pleasantly surprised at how funny it is. It is a lot different than anchorman 1 and admittedly not as good of a movie. Although the first movie was very silly, I did find myself caring for the characters on some level and was drawn into the story. If you are expecting plot and character development to be part of the experience of Anchorman 2 , you will be disappointed. Rather than a movie, I look at the sequel as a series of gags, with a few that missed, but with many more that worked. I was able to let go of whatever emotional investment I had in the characters from the first movie and just go along for the ride. And the ride takes you to some pretty out there places in the universe of silly humor, without relying on fart jokes and sexual innuendo the entire time I might add. I was impressed by how far they went with the silliness and at times found myself laughing to the point of tears. The bottom line... if you are looking for something that will make you laugh, put this on.

I don't know if your closing statement is true. A lot of people who saw it had high expectations and didn't really laugh.

I think it's better to go in not expecting much, like you, and then it's probably pretty darn funny.

I went into it with low expectations and with a buzz on from a few tequila shots and still found it awfully silly and not that funny. I like all of these guys as comedic actors, and they even had a higher caliber cast this time to work with, but they just fell flat with it IMO. I enjoy stupid jokes, but this movie was like a series of bad SNL skits strung together (the ones they put on after 12:30). The kid who played the son was one of the worst child actors ever. Harrison Ford was ridiculous. The Drake and Kanye West cameos were lame and unnecessary almost like Will Ferrell did them a favor or something. They can't even act. And don't even get me started on the whole rumble sequence at the end. In Anchorman 1 it was laughable, in this one just plain stupid.

yeah i went into it not wanting to watch it, with absolutely no interest, thinking it would suck cause peoople told me it did, and i didnt think it would live up to the original, and was already (unexpectedly) but not AS unexpectedly let down by Dumb and Dumber To (i knew it couldnt even touch the first, but i figured if they were gonna try it wouldnt SUCK) it didnt "suck" but i thought it would at least be a 7, 8 out of 10. It was like a 6 :( And only because I adore the first and the actors, and went in holding my breath like a bright eyed little girl hoping her dad will come to her recital even though he comes 60 percent of the time LOL. ANYWAY, so going into this not even wanting to watch it, I was so pleasantly surprised. After about---15 mins in, it got better, and then kept getting better with some stuff that wasnt great but overall, i liked it---id even watch it again with friends if they asked me to.

Dumb and Dumber 2 was disappointing for me too.

I think the moment in Anchorman 2 where it started to click for me was after he left NY and got a job as an announcer at Sea World.
