I suspect imdb is manipulating the numbers

I saw the movie last night with friends. We all agreed the movie was so poor that we walked out midway. I'm only embarrassed to admit that we weren't the first to leave. We stuck it out longer than it deserved. We didn't get our time wasted back but at least we got our money back.

Now I suspect imdb is manipulating the ratings. This movie just isn't anywhere close to 7+. Imdb has given the movie's home page a special background and some other special treatments so obviously money changed hands. I can't help thinking the rating numbers are tied to that as well.

Is there a more objective movie review site than imdb? I realize movie reviews are inherently subjective but I'd be happy with a crowd-sourced rating score that people are confident isn't being manipulated.

if you're asking if the madness is replacing sanity in the world, yeah that bothers me, too

meh this movie isnt all that bad. Its not great but the first one is a very specific type of deadpan and its not really the same as the first.

It feels like napoleon dynamite. I really hate that movie and do not understand its cult following at all. That doenst mean i think it makes no sense its rating would be higher than i think it deserves though. Its not always about how quality the movie is, or even how good it is, its about how much people liked it.

I mean, after earth and the last airbdender have ratings higher than 1. If that can happen then obviously the rating system is not based on quality.

First off, what you are looking for doesn't exist. Anybody can rate any movie for any reason. Even ones they haven't actually seen.

Two, I saw the film and was so disappointed. I was in the minority at the showing I bought a ticket for yesterday. So the comments from people who loved it are not suprising. I loved the original, Talladega Nights, Old School, Step Brothers and other comedies like Tommy Boy and Dumb and Dumber. I wanted to love it but with the exception of two scenes I was not laughing.

Is that Amazon Prime pumpkin-spiced?

"I was in the minority at the showing I bought a ticket for yesterday"

True. Even Marty McFly never achieved that!

reply

Agree with the OP. I saw the movie on Xmas day and witnessed numerous walkouts during the show. I give the movie a 4.....would have been a 3 without the slow motion rollover scene!

I'd check RottenTomatoes. Maybe a more accurate assessment there.

reply

I also believe this was a conspiracy

reply

No conspiracy theory, I voted it high, because I loved it, and quite a few people did. You either love the film or you don't, there's nothing else to it

It has a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes as well. And a 61 on Metacritic. So, this obviously means that that every major movie website is just in cahoots. All in the name of exposing tge public to a movie. Those monsters. Personally, I'm going to say that it's the Illuminati. And Satan. They're behind this. But what if It's the Lizard People to? or The Free Masons? The Jews?!?They're all involved, I know it. Since there is obviously no way anyone can disagree with your FINAL and INARGUABLE. opinion, It is clear that there is a new world order that is rigging websites and even the brains of the public and it all leading up to their sinister grand plan:

To get us to see Anchorman 2.

All those reasons for the high rating on IMDB you mention are real possibilities!

But the thought occurred to me that this is just a slow progression of the dumbing down of folks in the U.S. Just look at the sitcoms people watch on TV and actually laugh when the sound track tells them..."Okay, laugh now."

At one time, what I call "stupid humor" was so stupid it really was funny. Movies or shows with Charlie Chaplin, Jerry Lewis, Lucy Arnez, Archie Bunker, Jackie Gleason, and many more were all part of the stupid humor genre.

But nowadays, what they try to pass as stupid humor is past just stupid, they are just asking you to laugh and be entertained with the classic definition of stupidity, not humor, because they are so scared at offending anyone they can't do it otherwise.

Like most theatrical productions whether it be the stage, film, or TV show the writer somehow needs to get into the mind of the viewer so that the viewer can put themselves into the scene as either something they could/would do or they know someone who acts like way. Sort of a caricature of life scenario.

Unfortunately it's no longer possible.

That's highly probable. Look at how many people still think Obama's a genius.

i loved this two comments makes a great point.

Freeman Patrick-7 and bektaskonce,
That's quite a leap in logic - what in hell does Obama have to do with your assessment of a movie?

Some might look at one those who drag irrelevant, extraneous blathering about a difference of opinion on a movie; or better still, use the antiquated term, "retarded," to be themselves a little low on the IQ scale. Just saying. . .

Some movies are released; others sneak out.

So, in your mind an intelligent person is one who can't spot an analogous example when he sees one?

Here's another:

California must be a popular place to live.
Yeah, just look at the 10,000,000 people who live in LA County alone.

Or:

There are a lot of stupid people in Washington.
Yeah, Hank Johnson, the congressman from Georgia, said that he thought Guam would tip over if there were too many people on it.

Or:

The general population is retarded enough to think this is a good film

This is merely one person's suggestion, albeit somewhat rudely stated, that there are a lot of stupid people in the world.

To which I added, That's highly probable. Look at how many people still think Obama's a genius.

See how it works? It's been used in the English language for centuries. It's not a political statement per se. It's merely an observational opinion.

Well yeah, there are. When you consider the intelligence and sensitivity of the average person, you must realize that half of them are even more stupid. And, unfortunately, that lower half loves to vote up idiotic trash movies like this one. They have the maturity and taste of a ghetto 9-year-old.

reply

They're retarded because they like a movie that you dislike?

I gave this movie an "8". I must be getting paid by the producers and writers. Give me a break.

Sounds like most of you need to go watch some more superhero movies...

Um yeah- sounds like you're a groupthinking, sheep mentality moron.
