She tells owen that Thomas wasn't her father and owen sees photos of her and Thomas together when Thomas was a kid which hints Thomas was once her boyfriend? but he unfortunately grew old and abby didn't

Maybe...they definitely knew each other since Thomas was a boy. (50 years!) He actually is smaller than her in the photo which makes him look about 10 to me. That's why I wonder if they were romantic...more like friends. And for all we know, they could have known each other years before that photo was taken as well.
