1. I got mad wood at the end when we see the video of the girl being super whorey. Anyone else? Just sayin'. She looked super hot, especially when she busted open her shirt with those big ass tittaaaaaaays. I wish it went a little further.
2. What was Chromeskull's deal? I don't "get" him and his mask and his situation.
3. What the hell was the plot of this movie? They got into it a little bit when she's watching the video clips, but it still didn't make sense to me. Did I miss something?
4. What everyone is saying is pretty much bang on. The gore and kills are awesome, the killer is unique and pretty cool, but the rest of it is horrid and all over the place. I really don't think the actors should be faulted too much for this. Blame the writers! The dialogue in Laid to Rest is just TERRIBLE! Not even a good actor would be able to work with such a script!
yo dog i feel u on the whole video thang, but the key here is not to get to deep with this movie, its just all about the kills and gore, everything else is up in the air.
1) She's the director's wife...maybe be pulled the plug before it got to racy.
2) True, there wasnt much backstory on him, which may have been a blessing so we didnt get bogged down in his details...considering the writing wasnt incredibly strong, Im sure any attempt at character depth would have been a disaster.
3 & 4) Yeah, I'm thinking they came up with a great killer, someone who wears a POV camera when he attacks and sends the videos to the police. They also came up with a great look for the killer, although something about seeing the red light on his shoulder and the chrome face made him a little sci-fi looking rather than scary. And they came up with great gore and fx. They failed, however, in the writing department, plot and dialogue. You can tell the writer/director's background is in FX, not strong storytelling!

You couldnt be MORE WRONG. This movie has better acting and more story than a slasher film deserves and Robert Hall's first film "Lightning Bug" is a CLASSIC and one of the best told indie storys ever. If you havent seen it check out the praise and high rating on IMDB.
Well, Halloween is a classic, Psycho is a classic, Lightning Bug is a good film but let's not get crazy here! One of the best told Indie stories...EVER? Come on, I have a feeling you are connected to the production team in some way but even if you are Robert Hall himself, you cant make a statement like that and really believe it! I mean it didnt exactly turn indie films on their ear or start some kind of movement, it was a good movie, plain and simple, not ground-breaking cinema!
Now, on to Laid To Rest, I give this movie full credit for having great fx and original kills...very well thought-out stuff but I still have the opinion that the story telling is weak. Ive been a horror fanatic for decades and fully understand that you have to give a little leeway in terms of reality when it comes to most horror storylines and I'm fine with that (for christ sake, my screenname had Troma in it!). But, the ways in which "the girl" keeps leading the characters back into harms way kind of got silly after awhile. Look, im not bashing the film, not at all, as a matter of fact, if you check the threads I actually told people to buy the film! The strong points of this film and VERY strong but I think there are a number of weak points too which I point out just as readily as the strong. I like Robert Hall's films so far, for the most part, and will watch whatever his next film is! So the moral of the story is, opinions are like balloon knots, everybodies got one or something like that.
Also, I think it's a little unfair to the genre to say a film has better acting and more story than a genre "deserves". Why not always strive to be the Citizen Kane of your genre, be it slasher, gore, dick joke comedies...whatever. I think slashers can and "deserve" to be well-acted, well written, and well-made films!
SkaTroma You make some good points however i think Robert Hall (and know I dont personally know him although i admire him) was trying to make a slasher film WITHOUT:
5 stupid kids go into a scary place and X happens to them ONE BY ONE!
He was trying a bold move with th elead as to not be scream queenie and for my money it paid off. What horror film doesnt have actors being led from place to place to DIE? Thats the point. IMO Hall did a great job of avoiding the cliches and pitfalls of pretty boys and whores that you cant wait to see DIE.
Cant wait for Part 2.
and BTW: Lightning Bug is quickly becoming a cult classic. Way ahead of its time and finally getting credit.
**i think Robert Hall (and know I dont personally know him although i admire him)**
it proves u do know him or are him for writing that lol.
**5 stupid kids go into a scary place and X happens to them ONE BY ONE!**
nope definitly didnt do that..more like 1 stupid bitch wakes up and stumbles across more stupid people to join her and run around the same 3 places waiting to get killed
**MO Hall did a great job of avoiding the cliches and pitfalls of pretty boys and whores that you cant wait to see DIE.**
so im guessing thats why he hired the 3 'pretty boys' and had a lead who i was begging the killer to kill?

yes Robert we know you think u are the Hitchcock of your generation
I kept expecting that the bald guy was the killer, and most of what we saw was his fantasy, a la High Tension. It just seemed weird that both he and the killer were bald, and both kept leaving/reappearing at key moments in the film. Every time he said stuff like "I need to go back to the house" or "We don't have a phone...and I'm almost out of gas", it just came off as suspicious.
And like others have said, the killer needed some kind of backstory. Excellent gore, though...and the mask was memorable.
I think some such notion flickered through my mind briefly, too. That would have been a nice improvement, levitating the dreary narrative by at least a tiny soupcon of wit or ingenuity. Good one.
The thing with Laid to rest is it leapt straight into the action. From the very first reel, it began with the girl trapped inside the casket, and it went from there.
So, the story wasn't all explainable, no reason on why the killer did what he did, maybe he had no reason, if people listened to the movie's dialogue, during the movie when Steven was searching up serial killer's, he found one who has killed several. He was most likely just a serial killer. Gets his jollies by tormenting others.
If a sequel does come out, the odds are we will find out the origins of Chrome Skull if it sticks to the original.
Not everything needs to be explained in movies, somethings are best left to the imagination!
I liked the movie overall, was a good B horror flick. But sending an e-mail to get the cops out to your house? wtf? They had access to a bunch of cars all throughout the movie, why not just drive to the city? And the worst part was when she left the funeral home to ATTACK chromeskull in the shed. If someone can give me a good explanation to these actions I will blow a cow.
I really thought the girl was really attractive, but yeah, the story was paper thin,. Just a guy killing ppl for no good reason. Why does he choose to story them in caskets, we're never told.
The kills were good, but something about the story left me really unsatisfied. And I really hated how, everytime it seemed they had gotten away, the suddenly stopped and allowed him to catch up. Why in the hell did the chick trap herself with him in the old church, when all she was gonna do is freak out and throw the knife at him.
The movie was silly to me, and the villain wasn't very scary.
