“The Americans” star Costa Ronin has joined the cast of “Marvel’s Agent Carter” in a role that already has a strong connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll play Anton Vanko, the father of Ivan Vanko, played by Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2. In fact, the elder Vanko even made a brief appearance in that film, played by Evgeniy Lazarev.

“Fans have wanted to learn more about Anton Vanko since he was first mentioned in ‘Iron Man 2' and we’re happy to deliver with Costa’s terrific performance in ‘Marvel’s Agents Carter,’” says Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television.

While I trust Marvel not to do anything too "Fox-y" and screw things up, I'd still rather he was a somewhat minor character. More than cameo is fine and even a recurring character but I don't need or want to see the whole blow-by-blow of his rift with Stark. Can't recall the specific date of when Vanko gets deported and if it falls within the timeline of Peggy Carter - but unless it's right smack in the middle I'd almost rather he be a somewhat shifty partner of Stark's and leave it at that (for now).

Watching Gotham has me overly sensitive to shows trying to shine light into every little corner of their universe too quickly.

The very fact that we really don't know for sure if the elder Vanko was actually a spy or if Howard's ego just ran amok or what means you can have the character on Peggy Carter be somewhat neutral as long as they like.

I'll be a bit worried if the very first scene you see with him he's portrayed as Boris from Rocky and Bullwinkle.
