Films with Russian setting suck

Sorry, but truth.

95% of all films taking place in Russia are crap. Looks like most directors go there to save money.

It may have been filmed in Vancouver but it's set in New Jersey, except for the first and last scenes which are set in California.

They suck because most DO NOT go to Russia to make them and do not employ Russian actors and other moviemakers to make them authentic. Instead they come out ridiculous.

Mostly they're shot in Bulgaria, Romania or other former COMECON states which is close enough, as they all have enormous Soviet influence. It's very easy to make a film shot in Bulgaria look like Russia, for example. It's cheaper and lacks the bureaucracy of actually filming in Russia.

Clearly, you have not seen 'The Mechanik' with Dolph Lundgren. One of Dolph's best.
