Carrell and Chalamet Must Be REALLY Desperate for Oscars

this movie looks like such boring, cliche Oscar bait

A white middle class dad has a son who likes drugs. Boo hoo. There are millions of poor people with kids who do hard drugs, do they ALL deserve a movie adaptation?

This movie's sole purpose, cynically, is to allow Carrell and Chalamet to overact the shit out of all the grief, sadness, and most importantly CRYING that comes with dealing with drug addiction

yep very well said, these 2 are super thirsty for an award and you know what ? people will actually watch this crap and think its good lol

Sadly, middle class society tends to not notice issues such as crime, violence, drug abuse, etc., until they themselves are directly affected by them.

So you haven't actually seen it?
Well, there have been many movies about addiction.
This is just one.

It's based on both father and son books about the sons addiction.

The performances feel authentic and real but it suffers more from the episodic nature of the film than the family's upper middle class status.
You don't have to be upper middle class (I'm not) to recognize some of the sons behavior (the stealing from you, the lies and manipulations and the disappearing) as true and familiar...

But it flashes back and fourth from past to present and it jumps from one separate event to another which succeeds in making the viewer less invested. Although I think it proves that for many it definitely needs someone fighting on their side to survive it.

Well you really should watch it first before commenting.
That’s an oddity
I watched BB last night and it reminded me of those 70s made for TV movies that started with “ I was a teenage alcoholic, prostitute, cocaine addict etc”
Same old story - lies, manipulation, stealing, relapses
Btw, there’s dozens of movies that have been made involving lower middle class addicts - start with panic in Needle park, Midnight Cowboy, Drugstore Cowboys, Basketball Diaries etc
Drug addiction is an equal opportunity decease
