Reads like a race studies paper at some woke northeastern college. I was interested in learning something about a movie showing people from across the spectrum of races and cultures coming together to accomplish this great human achievement, Instead, we get the narcissist writer building his CRT bona fides with an exhaustive critique of the “white savior narrative,” “the white gaze,” and “the condescending approach so often on display when a white [filmaker] meets a subject of color.” I think the writer would’ve been very pleased if the story simply changed the historical record and pretended the military divers who happened to be white did not exist as major players in the rescue. I don’t know how you feel about these things Hownos but to me, the modern movie critique has become a worthless exercise in virtue signaling.
