Soundtrack "replaced" on Netflix/ITunes

Sad to see that Netflix (And now iTunes) replaced pretty much the entire show's soundtrack due to copyright reasons. I think the music was one of the greatest things about this show. They had great moments where the songs gave a whole feel to the scenes and now new viewers will never get to experience that. Like the montage with band of horses "The funeral" in the season 1 Finale, "Ryan Adams - Wonderwall" and so many others.

I was rewatching season 2 episode 1 on Netflix the other day and oh my god, some of the "new" song choices are absolutely terrible and don't fit the scenes at all. You can't even find them anywhere. There are probably a couple replacements I didn't mind but overall this is extremely annoying, especially because I had the whole series on iTunes with the original music and in the past month I just noticed all my episodes were updated with the new crappy music. And sadly they don't even make the dvd's anymore so watching the original version will become a rare thing šŸ™

I don't care about the fricken music. I'm just enjoying the episodes.

The music is a huge part of the episodes though. Especially in this case, when this show has way too many plot holes and flaws. The music and how well selected the songs were almost made up for everything wrong with the show. But oh well, maybe that's just me.

I had no idea this had happened, and now wonder if it's happened to other shows I've watched. I knew that Netflix sometimes simply left out episodes for song-copyright reasons, but I didn't realize they might alter episodes they do offer.

You're absolutely right that this affects viewing. It's also pretty awful that shows you've actually downloaded and paid for off iTunes can be manipulated in this way. Do you have the originals backed up somewhere?

Yeah, I have all 5 seasons in dvd now, which contains the original music. Sadly they stopped selling/making them, so watching the original version will become a pretty rare thing and new viewers will never know :/ The only seasons available to own right now are 4 and 5 and I think 3 on Amazon but not for much longer. Finding the season 2 DVD is the hardest thing ever. I found an used one in really good condition but usually you can't find it anywhere. And I got the season 1 box set on e-bay. iTunes was just way more convenient for me which is why I was so frustrated.

The original 90210 also suffers from this copy right issue, which has resulted in stock music being used and at times the song choices make little sense. Also bisarre is when there are special music guests and they literally crop them out of a scene.

I agree! Rewatching the show on Netflix now, and I noticed that I don't remember the new songs, and they are pretty bad

Yeah, it really sucks :(
I have the dvd's and I plan to rewatch the whole series soon. As convenient as Netflix can be the music really ruins it for me.

Goes to show how important the music really is then! Haha

I vaguely remember L.E.S. Artistes by Santigold playing when Adrianna said Ty was showering, but as I'm watching it on Netflix the song was replaced with something generic. It happened on other shows. The Dawson's Creek theme song was replaced when it was on Netflix, but I actually preferred the replacement song.

I've been looking for season 2 on DVD for years, kicking myself for not getting it when it first came out. I had a feeling it was probably due to a copyright issue with the music but you saying the music on Netflix has been changed pretty much confirms it. It's a shame, this happened with the original series as well. Though, they changed the music before making the DVDs.
