I just read a really interesting interview from 2011 of Shenae Grimes about the major change of Annie in season 4. She absolutely hated it, saying that she didn't understand why Annie would ever do something so out of character for her, especially when she hadn't even reached out to her parents for money! She no longer felt any connection with her character because of this. And she's right! I was so annoyed that she did that without even once reaching out to her parents. They had a house in Beverly Hills and her Mom probably sold the beach club after taking over from Jen. Why the hell would a 19-year-old pay for her brother's rehab by escorting BEFORE asking her parents for money???? Never made any sense to me. But funny note: ever noticed how her style drastically changed too, especially in S4-5? That's because Shenae was close friends with the wardrobe girls, and eventually she dressed Annie herself, blending in her own sense of style. She hated Annie's preppy and boring clothes (like I did.) she also said that her and Annie were nothing alike in any way.
Annie's style in Season 4 and 5 didn't seem like Shenae's style at all! They started dressing her as a "rich girl", similar to Naomi's style. I'm not super familiar with Shenae or her preferences, but based on pics I've seen the style looks very different.
Annie's wardrobe in Season 2 was a bit boring, but that was during the time when she was an outcast and laying low. It made sense for her to dress that way. In Season 3 she started wearing better stuff, but it was still a somewhat toned-down look as compared to Season 1.
Yeah I didn't mean that Shenae dressed Annie like herself, but she got to dress Annie in her own vision, unlike before where she didn't have any input. She probably got a more expensive fashion style like you say, but it was still very unique and seperate from Naomi's and the best next to her, in my mind. But I think it was a lot more edgy and different than she had during the first three seasons :)
Correct-da-mundo! Shenae did hate every storyline she was given since season 2 basically. I remember she made a comment about the following things...
1) She said something along the lines of hating only being around "creepy Jasper." She didn't like being "pushed in the background" while everyone else "got to have fun together."
2) She hated how Annie moved from guy to guy
3) She made a comment about how ridiculous it was how the hit-and-run storyline ended up turning out. She said that initially the plan was to make Teddy's dad the real killer of Jasper's uncle. Apparently Annie was the second driver to hit him in the accident. This plan was abandoned. I remember the exact phrase Shenae used was "oneness off of Annie." She ended up calling the storyline "kinda pointless."
4) She called the "egg donor" storyline "relevant, I guess, but kind of weird." She knew girls who had been offered money for their eggs, but she thought it was weird.
5) She initially liked Liam and Annie together but then eventually ended up equating their onscreen chemistry to that of a brother and sister.
6) She was practically livid that the new producers for season 4 cut Teddy from the show. The cast was not informed, there was no official meeting. Shenae really liked Trevor and had to find out via the news on the internet. She was super pissed about this one.
7) She detested the hooker storyline, as you saw.
8) She made some passing comment about how ridiculous it was that Annie was with a priest.
Daaaamn girl. Show some graditude. I can agree with some of this, but most of her storylines I like. I loved the Jasper story, cause it was so dark and creepy. I did hate the priest thing :P
But... You're on a popular CW show, so stop complaining! She was probably jealous of Annalynne who took her spot as the lead when Naomi became more popular than Annie
It's incredibly unprofessional to do that, though. I'm sure other actors on the show weren't pleased with storylines they were given but none of them did that. It's part of her job to sell storylines/her character in interviews. She looks like a brat.
She may seem like a brat but I would be too with what she got compared to everyone else's story lines. She deserved a much better part. I liked her more than everyone else. She gets some creepy, psycho relationship for an entire season and talks to no one. She becomes an escort. Meanwhile, Naomi is off trying to get into college and dating some really interesting guys. Adriana and her drugs and stardom was a great one as well. And of course there's lame ass Silver who has guys fighting over her left and right. I would bitch too.
Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.
She's actually a very sweet person. I just think she's honest and I admire that. I had the pleasure to meet her last year here in LA and she was a total sweetheart. By far the nicest celeb I've ever met.
She was absolutely gorgeous. She was my favorite girl too, but after I saw her in person I realized the show really wasn't doing her justice in terms of makeup/wardrobe/hair, cause she was just stunning in person. I met AnnaLynne and Jessica Lowndes too and I honestly thought Shenae was way prettier than both of them.
Yeah, I remember she did say all of those things but she was usually right about all her complaints. Everything she complained about was exactly what the fans thought and what the producers ignored until the last minute. I think she was just honest and I admire that. When she had reasons to say good things about the show she always did. I remember this interview with her in the beginning of season 2 where she said she didn't mind being pushed in the background as long as she was given good material, or something along these lines. After what her storyline turned out to be and the lack of resolution that season I think she had every reason to complain lol
Also about Liam and Annie, she said she liked them and thought he was the best option for her followed by Ethan. She said she didn't understand why people liked Liam and Annie so much because her and Matt didn't think they had that much chemistry because they have a brother/sister relationship in real life. She also hated the priest storyline lol
The pilot episode last year was all about you. Was it strange to get the script for the second season premiere and you're not even in it until several minutes in? "Yeah. Tell me about it. Shocking, I guess, but at the same time, a little bit relieving. I was working like a dog last year. It took a toll on me, so as long as the material's there, I'm not complaining. I'd be nervous if my character was standing out and I didn't see her involved anymore, but to be honest, I feel like I've got some of the best material on the show this year."
She said this in the beginning of season 2 and I honestly feel like Annie standing out and not being involved that season was exactly what happened in the end lol Her screentime was so short that season compared to the rest of the cast. I remember she had 2 to 4 scenes every episode and almost all of them were with Jasper. I remember Jessica Stroup saying they barely saw her on set that year. So I can see why she wasn't happy with it although now looking back I can kind of see the change was necessary because it was what made Annie likable. I wasn't a huge fan of her during the first season (Silver and Adrianna were), but during season 2 she actually became my favorite character until the end of the show.
Annie was SO annoying in season 1! That's probably why Naomi became more of a popular character than her. But ever since that horrible scene in the season 1 finale, where Annie becomes the total underdog I just loved her! I know her complaints are what we as fans also thought, but it is unprofessional to trash the show you're cast in and made famous for.
I love that she did it though. I throughly enjoyed reading all those comments from her because she was kind of the voice for the fans. I mean, everyone was thinking it...Shenae just said it. It's really not the most professional thing you can do, but she really made me laugh every time she would share her opinions.
It was nice to know even the actress was having a difficult time.
Yeah, I remember she did say all of those things but she was usually right about all her complaints. Everything she complained about was exactly what the fans thought and what the producers ignored until the last minute. I think she was just honest and I admire that.
Agreed.
I can see how some would say it's unprofessional and normally I would agree with that, but I remember these interviews and she usually said it all in a nice way (not a rude, trashing the show way).

Honestly, that makes her sound like a brat. She's the actress playing the character, and her job is to act the script she's given. She especially sounds like a snob with the Jasper comment - seriously, you'd think it was a real high school she was talking about!
I disliked the storyline but liked the guy that played the role of Patrick, the guy she was sorta seeing during her hooker storyline. He was a cute older guy. Too bad they couldn't have introduced him in some other way not related to any prostitution storyline because I thought he and Annie had a kind of chemistry (not that it would have ever lasted because the writers clearly meant for Annie & Liam to be endgame) that was ruined by a bad storyline. Maybe he and another girl on the show would have been a better pairing.
