Why 3:33? - The Fourth Kind (2009) Discussion

I can't speak for the movie, for it is never explained, but the number 3 has always played a strong role in nature, religion and science. Wiccans believe in a threefold law, meaning whatever energy you put out comes back to you 3 times as strong. Jesus Christ supposedly died at 3pm, known as the "miracle hour'. Three deities (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost (the alien in this movie claims to be God). Many UFO's are triangular, having 3 sides. In "War of the Worlds" the aliens had 3 of everything... three eye lenses, three nuclei per cell, etc.

3:00am is supposed to be the 'dark hour' or witching hour. It's also supposedly the most common time for someone to die.
But yeah as dragontatt5 said 3pm was the time Jesus is said to have died, bad things are supposed to occur during 3am (especially 3:15) as a mockery towards heaven.

3-4 am is known as "dead hour" when most people either die or the people that have died come awake.

Well I heard it's that because supernatural activity occurs with the same number like 3:33 or 2:22 or 5:55 and so on haha :)

Bingo. 666 references Lucifer,the morning star. 333 references the beast. It is like comparing lestat to th vampires in 30 days of night.

Also 3:33 is from a U2 song called Unknown Caller which references the bible -

Jeremiah 33:3 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'

They use 3:33 as the time as well in the song, so whether its meant as a reference to the bible in this movie as well is anyones guess.

Its almost 1 am here and I just finished watching the movie. While watching it, as soon as I saw the 3:33 I wanted to come see if there was any threads on here about it.

When I was about 8 or 9 years old I woke up 4 nights in a row right at 3:33 on the dot. It didnt scare me, but weirded me out enough that its stuck in my head ever since. For a while I used to joke that it was predicting my death in March of 2033. Now I have 3 and 33 in my lotto numbers. Wanted to come straight on here curious how many people would also say theyve experienced that.... guess Im out of luck lol.

I am very superstitious about the time 3:33. I have OCD and three is my "OCD" number. I am an intelligent person but there is something very wrong about that time and I was a little bit scared to see it in the film,

Its an easy number to remember.
You can count to 3 on one hand.
3 3's works.... some how.

Basically its just the director spelling out "conspiracy! awesome aliens! This is real!" to the stupid people watching.

They could have done something clever with time and numbers, but the target audience might be a bit confused by this, so... we got a KISS. (keep it simple stupid)

Ask Hollywood why they stuck them selves on the number 3. You get it in practically every movie and TV-show when they talk about a number of items or a sudden amount of time.

I guess the most famous line with 3 is: "The Hovitos are near. The poison is still fresh, three days."

Supposedly, in demonology, 3:33 is when supernatural occurrences happen, as a mockery of the Trinity.
