Was part of the "white washing" smear campaign against this movie due to it coming out right after Donald Trump was elected president and the media was looking for something to support the claim "America is now more racist under Trump?"

Had it been made and released much earlier on in the decade, nobody would have cared about the ethnicity.

Sure, even though it was made entirely during the Obama administration years and Johansson is a staunch Democrat.
