SPOILER gir'ls motivation

why did she throw a rock at the main character?

and how come it's possible for her to throw it that far?

girl: Do you know me?
killer: No...
girl: I said, do you know me?
killer: Nope.
girl: Then why...
girl: I hate guys.
girl: So don't talk to me like that, you stupid retard.

i don't get that dialogue....he kept saying 'no', and she says 'So don't talk to me like that, you stupid retard.'....it doesn't make any sense!

Wanna have a drink? Don't like guys? You don't like guys?

That's why. I think, if someone wants to chime in on this, that this question would be much more insulting in Korean while in Korea. Homosexuality is a much more humiliating label for women, there, I believe, especially at such a young age.

Furthermore, even if you look past that, you could see that this wasn't merely about being hit on; it was the accusation that her dislike of men had to do with her 'not liking them,' not that she was abused by them. That's like someone asking a 9/11 widow, "what, you don't like terrorists because they're immigrants?"

Does that make sense? In a way, he was depriving her of the fact that she had been mistreated by men. His question nullified her anger/mistreatment/suffering - publicly.

Her strength is an entirely different story.

I am not sure but I think in those pictures in Ah-Jung's cellphone, the guy in the first picture is JP, the guy in the second picture looks like Do-Joon (the one using the computer). If so, Do-Joon slept with Ah-Jung before, but then he forgot her.

If the second picture in the cellphone is not Do-Joon, then my assumption will be wrong.

My take on that incident is that she was damaged from her personal experiences. She's basically been used by "two soccer teams" worth of men in return for things as simple as getting food. I assume she's poor, has to take care of her drunk grandmother, and is having sex with multiple people in order to survive which is killing her inside.

There is a scene when the boy high school kid is getting interrogated at that amusement park and he mentions a conversation where she is staring at her phone and says "I'm sick of it". When he says "What. sick of c**ks?" She just replies "I hate it".

So now when Do Joon is following her and says "Don't like guys?" it's striking a tender nerve. Even though it's an innocent drunken question, it becomes a much deeper one directed at her personally in her eyes. It throws her off and she has to ask "do you know me" like maybe he's heard of her reputation or something? I dunno. That's what I got from it all, but honestly, I'm pretty bad at reading movies to that level.

lafan313, your insight was helpful. thanks.

now only 1 question remains....how is it possible for a girl to throw such a big rock that far? impossible.

In seems unlikely that Do-Joon was one of the men in the pictures. While it's possible that if he did have an encounter with Ah-Jung before, he might have forgotten about it, he doesn't seem to have the mental capacity to barter food or money for sex. And if we, as audience members, can spot Do-Joon in a blurry cell phone pic, certainly his own mother could, and the film gives no indication that she did.

I took Ah-Jung's words to Do-Joon to mean that she's become sickened by the behavior of men who want her simply as a sexual object. Do-Joon doesn't know her and yet still wants to have sex with her. She's been used sexually by countless men who have no feelings for her whatsoever and, in her own words: "I hate it."

"Crippling pain?! That isn't covered by my insurance fraud!"

I went back and saw that scene again. When she threw the rock she was only able to barely throw it near Do Joon's feet, but when he threw it he was strong enough to hit her head. Perhaps the rock wasn't really as heavy as it looks, but heavy enough to seriously injure someone. Anyways the motive for her throwing the rock seems fairly straight forward; she's been emotionally damaged trying to get food by having sex with strangers and then she gets humiliated by Do Joon. Do Joon was hurting her feelings because she has some very complicated relationships and he made fun of her for not liking him, of course unintentionally. She basically says not to assume things about people he doesn't know. And when he becomes humiliated by being rejected by the girl he got angry and threw the rock back. Remember, he was fairly drunk and probably didn't think through what he had said to the girl and how much it hurt her.

she was just pissed because he forgot he slept with her. wasn't he collecting golf balls in the lake for a 'woman'? and he was in one of the pictures on the phone.

she was about to have sex with the junk collector, who happened to be rolling out a thin mat, and the way he rolled it out was sort of sensual. and she looked really hesitant to enter the alley like she didn't want to bang the old man but she needed food or money.

the kid wasn't as dumb as the town thought. he probably had a mental condition and had difficulty remembering things. didn't he remember the license plate and car color in the beginning? but then again, he forgot he smashed the mirror.

well, he obviously knew what he had done when he threw the rock at the girl, but it took a minute to process as he repeatedly grabbed his phone and turned away. he simply forgot he killed the girl, and then remembered later on when he told his mother the reason why he carried the body to the roof to justify his crime, or to at least defend himself.

i think jin-tae knew the kid killed the girl. why was he reading that forensics book? after he collected money from the mom, he was hesitant to leave the house. at the same time, he wanted to protect his friend but he wanted justice, so telling the mom to go investigate the murder would leave him out, even though he did beat up some kids.

he knew his mom killed the junk collector, too. he even pointed his picture out, and the way he gave his mom the needles was strange. he knew she was the murderer, and by giving the needles back was a way of taking control of his life. homeboy's just tired of his old lady nagging him about stupid things like tucking in shirts and feeding him.

and the girl has a lot of sex, so she's gotta be in shape.

BUT WHERE DID THE MONEY COME FROM?
