Is this anything like Bong's other films?

I've been long-awaited the North American release of this so I can finally see it, and in my excitement for this movie I watched arguably two of the director's most loved and acclaimed movies Memories of Murder and The Host and was underwhelmed by both. I enjoyed them but I felt they lacked a certain something that drew me in utterly.

I am REALLY hoping Mother won't be like this. So for anyone who has seen this movie, does it compare well to Bong's other works, specifically the two aforementioned films?

I thought Mother was pretty on par with Memories of Murder, I gave both 8's. The Host is something completely different and I can't really compare it with the others. "Mother's" performance though is great, which was different from Memories, which had a lot of good supporting roles.

Mother is similar to Memories. Both take place in rural areas and are about solving a mystery. I'm surprised you didn't like memories, that will forever be a classic!
