I agree. I was charmed by the mother's character, as well. This older actress is very convincing in her role. And I, being a mother of a young boy, know personally the strong bond that develops between a mother and her son. I would have done the same for my son, had I been in a similar predicament. Kudos to this actress. Any character that can evoke this much pathos in its audience deserves to be praised in my book. Also, I am American by birth, but my mother is originally from Korea (my father being American, mostly of Irish descent) and there were many cultural nuances that I picked up on that would only be present in a Korean mother's behavior, although the dynamics between the mother-son relationship is a universal one. There were many humorous moments in this film, as well. Oh, and the cinematography was amazing! Well done.
