spoiler question about the end confused....

when yoon do-joon gives her mother the case with the pins why did she looked shocked and angry? and why did she choose to run away at the subway station. And also why did she prick herself with the pin and then danced. im confused.....?

reply

she looked shocked because she thought she's the only one who knew what happened at the junkyard place, but his son somehow found a clue that might link her presence to the house burnt.

she ran away because she's got too much shock already, trying to run away from reality (this is just my personal interpretation. any other idea?)

she said she knows an acupuncture point on the thigh that will relieve a person from all the sadness, unhappined, and pains caused by the memories from the past.
by applying needle on the point. From this, I assume it has an effect of either erasing bad painful memories or somehow less affected by bad thoughts and memories. and that is exactly what she has wanted in the situation. she erased her memory and by joining the partying people, she relieved herself from the bad memories.

Just wanted to add that I don't think the mother was "running away." On the loud speaker, it says that they're going on a "Thank You Parents" bus tour. And Do-joon tells her that she can share the food he bought her with the other parents if it's too much.

Several times throughout the movie the mother talks about a certain point in the thigh that if punctured will relieve the person of bad memories and sadness and guilt.

At the movie's very beginning we see her walking through the same field she did after killing and burning the junk collector, and she is dancing oddly just like all those women on the bus. When she pricks herself with the needle at the end, she rids her mind of the guilt and sadness, and begins to dance, just like she did at the beginning.

So what I got is that the mother did this on her self often as a way to adapt to the bad things she had done, such as trying to poison her son and then herself.

I think there is more to it than simply relieving pain and erasing memories. I think she is talking about a secret acupuncture point that causes death. She is trying to get the junk collector to allow her to use it on him, remember, and mentions its direct link to the heart. I think that she used the secret point to kill herself and that the dancing is a surreal depiction of her drifting off into oblivion.

Just a theory...

She didn't want to kill the junk collector until AFTER he identified her son as the killer. She wanted to give him acupuncture before that.

School's for people who are boring and ugly and serious. And you, button, are none of those things.

Come on... did you even watch it?

hahahaha

my thoughts exactly.
how could someone even miss that?!

she obviously was in some kind of shock, cause she didn't even expect, her son, from all people, recently out of jail, to return her the case with needles after she had murdered the junkyard man.

She wasn't "running away". She was going on a trip with a bunch of parents, as it was clearly explained in that scene.

And I believe she talked about that point, we humans have in our thighs, where if done right, you could press the pin so that it releases all bad memories, sadness and pain away. (Scene in the jail with her son and with the old man she murders)

She was dancing cause she released all that. She let it all go. Something tells me, it could be like a natural morphine for the mind...

this movie is a piece of art.

What the acupuncture does when pricked in the thigh, it removes all the guilt that is stored in their conscience. But like the truth serum, the person had to pour out all the secrets that is kept inside, without control. In this case, the mother killed an old man, framed an autistic man and the son knew that she was the one who did it. In order to get all that guilt removed she would want to confess but didn't want others to know about it. By pricking her thigh in a bus that was already loud and carefree, she knew it was the best place to pour out her confessions without having to face the consequences.

reply

Could it be, she doing what she done to her son at a young age to make him forget about trying to kill him, thus becoming more of a free spirit like her son was. Whatever she did, she carry the guilt of her son for a long time and seemly got desperate.

adding to what's been said already, i believe what we saw in the first scene of the movie was her altered state of mind, her altered conscience, her altered memory(which is the ending of the movie on the bus).

When she's in the field right after burning the old man and his house, we don't see her dancing like she did in the beginning of the movie. We do see her dancing in the bus.

I believe what the filmmaker was trying to show us in the beginning was in fact the ending - that acupuncture procedure she did to herself on the bus already taken place. Her memories of reality are skewed and replaced by this release and forgetting of bad memories, heavy guilt and pains. So that first scene of the movie was what was going on in her mind at the end of the movie.

Hope that makes sense.
