*spoiler* Jin-tae question
There was a sudden switch from him being a possible suspect to a collaborator with the mother in the investigation. Can someone explain what happened in between? Very good film, BTW.

shareThe red stains on the golf club the mother found at Jin-tae's were not blood, as she suspected and claimed when she brought it to the police, but lipstick stains from Jin-tae's girlfriend. So, the police had no reason to accuse him of murdering the girl, and he's released.
Jin-tae was a bit despicable, but not evil. He was greedy, he used Do-joon and laughed at him for his condition, but in his selfish way he did care for Do-joon and managed to understand his mother's desperation. So he helps the mother, but not without making sure she pays him well for his collaboration.

Oscar Wilde
And in the process of helping Mother, Jin-tae finds that he has a yen for police work. Maybe that was enough to get him on the path to becoming a productive member of society.
shareI think it was just a red herring in the early-middle part of the movie to make Jin-Tae look guilty. He wasn't a bad person at all; he defended his friend, chased down the hit & run drivers & fought them defending on behalf of his friend. The scene where he asks the mother for money for her betrayal of him is kind of understandable--she's just seen him have sex with a girl & gone to the police to turn him in on a completely unfounded charge. Later, I believe he returned some of the money to her (the same money she gave to "Grandma" when retrieving Moon's cell phone). By then he's seen in a different light, fighting the two goons who were harassing Moon's friend. But all in all, I think he was a very admirable character. The only downside was his ribbing/teasing of his friend, though it didn't seem entirely mean-spirited, like it was just a normal part of their friendship.
