How did Coral (Paz Vega) get those government transcripts?
She said "the government turned it over on discovering my mistake." WHAT? What mistake? And why would said mistake lead the government to give to the girlfriend of a drug dealer?
What were the "grand jury transcripts" exactly? Were they transcripts of interviews between Blandon and Dodson? What exactly kind of lawyer was Dodson? Like, who did he work for? And how much did he know about the CIA turning their head on the drug smuggling? Was he in on it or did he find out what was going on and decided to keep protecting the secret?
In an article. "Webb was convinced the CIA turned a blind eye to accusations that some of the CIA-supported Nicaraguan Contras made money by smuggling drugs into the U.S. In turn, the contras used that money to buy weapons to fight the socialist Sandinista government in Nicaragua, which the U.S. government opposed."
What did the U.S government oppose? They opposed the contras using the money to buy weapons?? Or they opposed the Sandinista government? The sentence isn't clear. Was the Sandinista govt. a communist government?
Where did the U.S. stand in all of this? Did they want these CIA-supported Nicaraguan Contras to overthrow the government? Is that why they "turned their eye" with all the drug smuggling that was, in turn, making money for these CIA-supported Nicaraguan Contras?
I need a lot of this movie cleared up for me. It's easy to understand on a face-value level... but digging deep, you find A TON of unanswered questions or plot points that require far too much esoteric knowledge.
